About This Blog

This blog was created in February 2011, after the feminist website Jezebel altered its editorial line and the witty, in-depth reports on American politics and other heftier questions were waning in favour of topical reporting that largely followed the mainstream line. Ladies in Exile concentrates less on popular entertainment, however, and does not have an exclusive American focus.

The feminist line is not strictly followed. What affects one of us (more or less directly) affects us all. Also concentrating only on women's issues may reinforce unwarranted generalizations about male or female behaviour, and elide the stories of people who identify by other genders or by no gender.

Submissions

Ideally their topic and written style are fitting, the language is concise, and it is fuelled by a genuine interest in that topic. The information must be accurate, unbiased, and free of conflicts of interest; it will be fact-checked. As Ladies in Exile is not set up with tax authorities, these submissions would unfortunately need to be unpaid.

(For writing regarding gay rights and transgender rights, please refer to GLAAD's* guidelines , which are detailed and intuitive. So far the blog has no strict formal style, in terms of italicization of publications e.g. newspapers, punctuation of titles like Mr., anglicized or American spellings, etc.)
